Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: grooviechickie on September 07, 2007, 10:11:13 PM Some of the little 'uns are worried about an age limit for getting into court. I don't know the rules (if they exist).

Until you can get some new, real hard facts about it, I suggest you all cool your jets. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Erubadhriel on September 07, 2007, 10:19:57 PM you might want to check out hire shops and see what they have, and maybe get an idea from there.

Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Rhiannon on September 07, 2007, 10:26:42 PM Just as a side note, Osama costume = contempt of court. I'd stick to mufty, rather than mufti.
Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Zivko (Really Zivko) on September 07, 2007, 10:27:09 PM ... Now your name is just an oxymoron. Just as a side note, Osama costume = contempt of court. I'd stick to mufty, rather than mufti. Oh! Oh! From what I understand, it's also a arrest-able offence to dress as or look like a police officer in public, not just in court. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: DiddlySquat on September 07, 2007, 10:27:39 PM You don't know anything else about the case yet, so there isn't any real point about talking about it. No, it's discrimination againsts fatheads who dress up like terrorists and go to court cases because they have nothing more constructive to do :-P And I'm pretty sure that if it's not contempt of court it's at least "Do you REALLY think we're going to let you the fuck in?" Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Samhain on September 07, 2007, 10:32:59 PM And I'm pretty sure that if it's not contempt of court it's at least "Do you REALLY think we're going to let you the fuck in?" Fair enough :-( Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Zivko (Really Zivko) on September 07, 2007, 10:38:05 PM Guys, guys, guys....Let's think about this for a second.
We have two well educated grown men, working on a popular ABC television show, who work with many writers, researchers and lawyers. Whether or not they get in trouble, they knew what they were doing. If you attempt to dress like a terrorist or a police officer, you are also risking yourselves, being in contempt of court and possibly facing fines or jail time. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Lexii- on September 07, 2007, 10:39:46 PM We won't have proper cop suits. Just a hat I assume.

Couldn't making fake APEC passes also result in fines or gaol time? Note: I am in no way responsible for what you may do with this in any way, please don't do this for something stupid, it's simply for a gag. Not to mention that I haven't put anyone's identification on it, so it alone is useless. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Lexii- on September 07, 2007, 10:49:35 PM Ah okay.
It wouldn't do any harm in wearing a cop hat though..It's not like they have an official Police badge on them. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Rhiannon on September 07, 2007, 10:50:00 PM Also, I think we're all forgetting....
JULIAN IS A LAWYER. *cough* Sorry. But yeah. If you want to go trainspot, then do it by all means. I'm pretty sure that they could be held up for forgery if they hadn't written "obviously not a real pass" ON the passes. They build little defence attorneys’ into their gags. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chas' Cheer Girl on September 07, 2007, 10:50:35 PM Meh. I reckon it'll be along the lines of no taping off the tv or j-walking...
And on that note, I've found all the images I need to make mine and GC's from scratch, so I'm off for the night. You watch I'll come back tomorrow and there'll be 50 pages to catch up on. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Nick 2 on September 08, 2007, 12:26:21 AM what the hell is this?
the chaser team is made up of trained lawyers (and a journalist). dom jules and chas are all perfectly capable of looking after themselves. i am certain that they all knew exactly what they were getting into before they did it. moreover, the stunt did exactly what it was meant (i imagine) to do .. showed all of australia how the coppers and the state are prepared to trample on the rights of citizens for vulgar political gain. mark my words, the security is so tight not because of any credible threat against APEC; rather, JH is wanting to show off to GWB how here in australia the state maintains a firm grip over the masses, just like in america <heart>. turning up in a courtroom and acting like idiots is not going to help the chasers any. for gods sake, beat up a today tonight reporter if you're so interested in helping them .. or if you really want to do something, civil disobedience is the way. get as many people as you can to ignore the law and the cops for a few days. show the state that you're not going to take their shit lying down. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Samhain on September 08, 2007, 12:38:37 AM what the hell is this? Calm down.... It was just something to talk about and to save the other thread from exploding under pressure, this new thread was made. Trust me, there's a brain somewhere to be found amidst the 10 of us here. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Rhiannon on September 08, 2007, 12:51:00 AM Nick, calm yourself. They weren't offering to defend them. As if they'll be charged anyway.
Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chas' Cheer Girl on September 08, 2007, 01:30:41 AM I am seriously considering going. One of my classes requires me to attend a certain number of court cases and do reports on them after. And 'cause I get to choose which cases I have to do, why not go to a Chaser one? :D
...Dressing up was up in the air for me. I'm actually extremely introvert... Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: kim on September 08, 2007, 04:25:04 AM i think it'd be nice if some fans were there with little 'go chaser' flags, and to let them know we think they rock :) no need to be rowdy or dress up, just support in the form of being present.
if you can't get in, perhaps you can wait outside the court - if you can be fucked doing that. i assume there'd be a few media crews there too. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chromefox on September 08, 2007, 05:23:01 AM Just make sure you don't give off the impression of wanting to be them, or they might have the book thrown at them for influencing people's stupidity. Support is great, but know when and where. XD Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Keridwen on September 08, 2007, 05:31:07 AM Damn. Why couldn't their trial be sometime from the 16th to the 24th of October instead? I blame APEC entirely. In fact, I think I'm going to find a placard and protest.
Or was that OPEC? Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: :-) Fred on September 08, 2007, 06:33:08 AM 4th of October MY Birthday
Any chance of this being sent to Brisbane to get a fair jury of unbiased rednecks then I could go along and say "yay" then go home Put this case on the road The Chasers War on the Law Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: grooviechickie on September 08, 2007, 10:07:20 AM Someone's gotta hold GC's hand  Awwwwwww. You're so sweet. Can I buy some of your WMDs? :-DA few interesting points were raised here. My original idea for going to support them dressed up was to show that I am against the government of this country declaring it illegal to go into our city, all because of a band of morons from around the world who want to sit around and talk about fucking up the world in a nicer way. Where is our democratic right to protest? Where is our democratic right to POKE FUN? If they won't let me into the court in the full get-up, perhaps just a full beard and moe or cop hat etc will be okay. I am not going into the court to cause a ruckus (I plan to be very quiet - I just want to listen), I am there to support the people who are brave enough to stick up for our democratic right, even to the point of getting arrested for it. I am proud of Australians using humour and comedy, our best traits, to make a point. So yeah, I understand that there could be problems, but I am going, dressed as Osama or not, wearing a cop hat or not, or wearing the APEC pass or not. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chromefox on September 08, 2007, 10:34:35 AM A better speech than will be heard anywhere within the restricted zone of APEC, I'm sure. I support that.
Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chas' Cheer Girl on September 08, 2007, 11:24:40 AM Oh yeah! It completely crossed my mind. In the courtroom you can't wear hats or sunglasses. It's disrespectful to the judge.
...That doesn't mean you can't wear them afterward, outside. :D Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chromefox on September 08, 2007, 11:26:51 AM Doesn't mean she can't wear a beard. But I will volunteer to be bitter for the following reasons. 1) You have the Chaser. 2) Bands choose to tour Australia more often than Canada. 3) Your money is made of plastic, which is actually really smart. If theres someone hot or something that comes up mainstream, or becomes popular... the biggest fans are the youth. girls in particular... lol well this sounds so contradicting.. even though im a guy Anyway, If anything... i really don't care about that mainstream stuff... I'm just a 14 year old guy that loves his heavy metal/punk rock, interested in lots of politics and love a laugh, The chaser just amplifies it up for me, exposing loop holes in society and pranking celebrities to prove they are human, not some immortal god that walks the earth... Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chromefox on September 11, 2007, 06:04:44 AM A couple of backlogged pearls of wisdom from me.
1) I really would like to get my fucking arse down there. 2) I'm repulsed that the Chaser were compared to Fall Out Boy in the slightest. 3) Now here's a question I've been wondering the answer to for a while. It's a two part-er. Brace yourselves. A) Is there an audible difference between American and Canadian accents? Eh's and aboot's don't qualify. B) Do we sound completely fucking stupid to you? Because I know over here there's widespread appeal in anyone with an accent, and I honestly don't think we have the same novelty. If I were you, I would think we sounded stupid. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: grooviechickie on September 11, 2007, 08:57:44 AM Chromey darling, don't worry. I personally believe that although you may have a similar accent to Yanks (TG it's softer and nicer), you have a wicked sense of humour. You guys don't need everything spelled out for you, nor every satirical piece explained in teensy words with big pictures, and you certainly don't need canned laughter to tell you when to laugh. I like Canadians.
We just enjoy taunting you. :-P  I don't mind Yanks either. Collectively they appear more stupid than their El Presidente, but there are some smart ones in there... somewhere... and the odd show tickles my funnybone (Arrested Development, Seinfeld, The Daily Show and Scrubs come to mind). Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Chromefox on September 11, 2007, 09:04:26 AM Relieving though it is, I primarily wonder if our accents sound retarded--I think they would. The taunting is no problem. I expect it, being the token foreigner and all. Canada is my schtick. Keeps me moderately interesting. If you're not a member of diwana, mininova.org has CNNNN series one bar episode 7, and no series 2. And torrentspy.com has The Chaser Decides. Both these are public trackers. I'll be there, with my "press" hat (if that's allowed). It's been a few years since I was a witness at a (real) court case ... what's allowed in there? I think they take you through the metal detector, don't they? I know the NSW Supreme Court has zero, nada, zip security on the way to the lifts and the actual courtrooms, but we're talking about trial courts here. Well anyway, that means I have to leave my pocket tools at home, and probably my camera? Can anyone shed light on this? (Sig?) And on the other topic: Today's goings-on in Canberra were two major mutual-ma*****ation events between Canada and Australia. Fair enough, probably, seeing as how much our two systems of government have in common — today was the first time a Canadian Prime Minister ever addressed our parliament, surprisingly. There were a few jokes about whose sports were better, and how someone in the 1800s in Canada declared cricket to be the national sport. The Canadian PM made a few comebacks about hockey and football, and told us about how Canada suffers from "Senate Envy" when it comes to Australia. CK. Basically the only things allowed in there are your person, and basically any items not confiscated off you. Mobile phones must be switched off and no photos. I don't know about other local courts, but my Local/District court has an x-ray machine, and multiple metal detectors. No recording devices are allowed into the courtrooms, so if you show up with a camera, although you able to pass it though the x-ray machine, it''l probably be confiscated off you until you leave. As for general courtroom rules, these generally apply: 1. No eating or drinking. 2. Bow to the crest behind the magistrate as you enter. 3. Don't make any noise, or disrupt the courtroom at all. In general, if you annoy the magistrate in any way, they'll ask you to leave the courtroom. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Werdnum on September 16, 2007, 12:10:29 AM It depends. They can't close the court to the public (S191, Criminal Procedure Act 1986; S48, Local Courts Act 1982), but the magistrate can kick people out if they're disruptive. I would imagine that if the place is full, and you can't sit down, you will be asked not to remain in the courtroom. I would also imagine that if there's a mini-stampede, people will be told to go away.

Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: dom on September 16, 2007, 05:14:45 AM OK... while we appreciate the support, the inglorious history of Chaser court appearances suggests that on the day of the first mention (Oct 4), nothing will happen. It's highly unlikely anyone will go other than a lawyer.
So don't bother turning up on the 4th. There will be later dates when the action actually happens. Sorry if this rains on anyone's parade, but it's better than wasting a day I reckon. Dunno what info they got to say so; maybe it's the court list going up? I mean, why make this a news story on Sunday? Not the day before?
Ahh, maybe I should stand outside the court with a big poster: "SKYFUL OF LIES" (that's an inside joke about the Burmese media government mouthpiece) Does anyone have any experience making pinko-demo cardboard signs? Anyhoo, I've got the day off and I'll see who else is hanging around. We'll probably get bored and go have a cheap bite to eat around the corner and find something interesting to do. (Maybe pretend to flash-mob the Town Hall again ... hmmm why didn't they fill the cross-walk intersection with a maypole and dance around it? Instead of just screaming and jumping in front of cars listening to their iPods?) CK. Just their lawyer, and it won't be the trial it'll probably only be a mention. If you wanna see the Chaser boys, go to a taping. That being said, if you are wanting to go for the 5 minutes of legal jargon, keep an eye on that lawlink link I posted earlier for updates. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Mr. Blonde on October 03, 2007, 08:40:47 PM Craig said that it's not happening on thursday anymore so don't bother turning up.
Whether that means it is happening on thursday and they just don't want people there, or it's not happening and they're just letting us know... I say don't bother. The only thing it will do is put more pressure on everyone involved. Mostly negative pressure. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: Lexii- on October 03, 2007, 09:02:29 PM No, it is happening on Thursday- But it's likely that only lawyers will turn up. Title: Re: October 4th forumster action - the official thread Post by: . on October 06, 2007, 03:26:59 AM does this mean their not going to court today and instead there waiting till december? 1. The answer to this and all your other questions can be found by perusing the thread. By asking the same question that's been answered 50 times in the thread, you come across as a bit of a dolt. 2. Let's see how your sentence would look, written in English: Does this mean they're not going to court today and instead they're waiting 'til December? Now, keep in mind that you already look like a dolt for asking a question that's been answered 50 times in the thread. When you add on the fact that you can't differentiate between three very common homophones, then it compounds that impression. Here's a little story I've written about The Three Theres (Theirs/They'res) Once upon a time there was a fat girl with mangy hair called Yakilocks. Yakilocks was doing her homework - an essay on the drop in literacy levels in Australian children - and was (ironically) stumped on how to continue a sentence. "Hmmmm," she thought to herself."I'm not quite sure what 'there' I'm meant to use in this sentence." She looked at the sentence. "Does this mean _______ not going to court today and instead ______ waiting till December?" She ate a muffin in an attempt to give her some inspirat |
