age limit? What's going on? I must have missed something in the 48-or-so pages there.

Some of the little 'uns are worried about an age limit for getting into court. I don't know the rules (if they exist).

Age limit for the court hearing; are people under 18 years of age allowed to attend.

I'm not entirely sure yet.
All I know is that the DPP who invited my to another case wanted to make sure I was over 18, which is what makes me think their might be... :|

We have two well educated grown men, working on a popular ABC television show, who work with many writers, researchers and lawyers.

Whether or not they get in trouble, they knew what they were doing.

If you attempt to dress like a terrorist or a police officer, you are also risking yourselves, being in contempt of court and possibly facing fines or jail time.

We won't have proper cop suits. Just a hat I assume.

the chaser team is made up of trained lawyers (and a journalist). dom jules and chas are all perfectly capable of looking after themselves. i am certain that they all knew exactly what they were getting into before they did it. moreover, the stunt did exactly what it was meant (i imagine) to do .. showed all of australia how the coppers and the state are prepared to trample on the rights of citizens for vulgar political gain. mark my words, the security is so tight not because of any credible threat against APEC; rather, JH is wanting to show off to GWB how here in australia the state maintains a firm grip over the masses, just like in america <heart>.

turning up in a courtroom and acting like idiots is not going to help the chasers any. for gods sake, beat up a today tonight reporter if you're so interested in helping them ..

or if you really want to do something, civil disobedience is the way. get as many people as you can to ignore the law and the cops for a few days. show the state that you're not going to take their shit lying down.

I am seriously considering going. One of my classes requires me to attend a certain number of court cases and do reports on them after. And 'cause I get to choose which cases I have to do, why not go to a Chaser one? :D

i think it'd be nice if some fans were there with little 'go chaser' flags, and to let them know we think they rock :) no need to be rowdy or dress up, just support in the form of being present.

A few interesting points were raised here. My original idea for going to support them dressed up was to show that I am against the government of this country declaring it illegal to go into our city, all because of a band of morons from around the world who want to sit around and talk about fucking up the world in a nicer way.

Where is our democratic right to protest? Where is our democratic right to POKE FUN?

If they won't let me into the court in the full get-up, perhaps just a full beard and moe or cop hat etc will be okay.

I am not going into the court to cause a ruckus (I plan to be very quiet - I just want to listen), I am there to support the people who are brave enough to stick up for our democratic right, even to the point of getting arrested for it. I am proud of Australians using humour and comedy, our best traits, to make a point.

So yeah, I understand that there could be problems, but I am going, dressed as Osama or not, wearing a cop hat or not, or wearing the APEC pass or not.

A better speech than will be heard anywhere within the restricted zone of APEC, I'm sure. I support that.

Chromey darling, don't worry. I personally believe that although you may have a similar accent to Yanks (TG it's softer and nicer), you have a wicked sense of humour. If you're a member of diwana.org, which is a private tracker, they have both series of CNNNN (although series 2 is only VHS quality, although that's better than nothing in my opinion) and The Chaser Decides.

If you're not a member of diwana, mininova.org has CNNNN series one bar episode 7, and no series 2. And torrentspy.com has The Chaser Decides. Both these are public trackers.

I have not found The Election Chaser anywhere, nor do I expect to.

I do have a few invites to diwana should anyone want them, though.

I'll be there, with my "press" hat (if that's allowed).  It's been a few years since I was a witness at a (real) court case ... what's allowed in there?  I think they take you through the metal detector, don't they?  I know the NSW Supreme Court has zero, nada, zip security on the way to the lifts and the actual courtrooms, but we're talking about trial courts here.  Well anyway, that means I have to leave my pocket tools at home, and probably my camera?  Can anyone shed light on this?  (Sig?)

Today's goings-on in Canberra were two major mutual-ma*****ation events between Canada and Australia.  Fair enough, probably, seeing as how much our two systems of government have in common — today was the first time a Canadian Prime Minister ever addressed our parliament, surprisingly.  There were a few jokes about whose sports were better, and how someone in the 1800s in Canada declared cricket to be the national sport.  The Canadian PM made a few comebacks about hockey and football, and told us about how Canada suffers from "Senate Envy" when it comes to Australia.

No hat's or sunglasses are allowed on in the courtroom. Basically the only things allowed in there are your person, and basically any items not confiscated off you. Mobile phones must be switched off and no photos.
I don't know about other local courts, but my Local/District court has an x-ray machine, and multiple metal detectors.
No recording devices are allowed into the courtrooms, so if you show up with a camera, although you able to pass it though the x-ray machine, it''l probably be confiscated off you until you leave.

There's definitely no age limit; I've been in the Downing Centre before for Legal Studies Class, at the ages of 14 and 16.

As for general courtroom rules, these generally apply:
1. No eating or drinking.
2. Bow to the crest behind the magistrate as you enter.
3. Don't make any noise, or disrupt the courtroom at all. In general, if you annoy the magistrate in any way, they'll ask you to leave the courtroom.

Chances are if heaps of people rock up, they'll have to kick some out.

It depends. They can't close the court to the public (S191, Criminal Procedure Act 1986; S48, Local Courts Act 1982), but the magistrate can kick people out if they're disruptive. I would imagine that if the place is full, and you can't sit down, you will be asked not to remain in the courtroom. I would also imagine that if there's a mini-stampede, people will be told to go away.

Hearings tend to start at 10am in courts but you'd best check first.

Court lists go up on lawlink the day before.

OK... while we appreciate the support, the inglorious history of Chaser court appearances suggests that on the day of the first mention (Oct 4), nothing will happen. It's highly unlikely anyone will go other than a lawyer.

So don't bother turning up on the 4th. There will be later dates when the action actually happens.

Sky News is running a whole story on just the fact they're "confirmed" to be turning up at court (I don't buy it, personally), and saying this is "despite speculation" they wouldn't be in court until December.  Dunno what info they got to say so;  maybe it's the court list going up?  I mean, why make this a news story on Sunday?  Not the day before?

Unless you're wanting to go for the actual legal stuff, I wouldn't go. The guys don't think they'll be turning up. Just their lawyer, and it won't be the trial it'll probably only be a mention.

What interests and puzzles me is why a Fairfax reporter bolloxed about a court case being delayed to December, and where they even got the idea from in the first place (no sources are even sighted).

you can turn up to any court hearing you want... regardless of age.... unless its a closed court (like a custody matter or some kind of evidence that the judge etc. don't want people to hear (like in murder or rape cases)

My suggestion, like Julie, is don't go. :|
