[Edition 25] SYDNEY, Sunday: Former discus champion Werner Reiterer has admitted he was obliged to withhold the names of Australian drug cheats, as part of a two-book publishing deal with Pan Macmillan.

He told the Australian Olympic Committee yesterday that he's always been prepared to name names, but would rather do it in a bestseller than in an inquiry.

[Edition 24] SYDNEY, Friday: Sydney's lucrative junior league netball broadcasting market was shaken yesterday by the launch of a historic bid by one of the world's most predatory entrepreneurs, Rupert Murdoch, to secure ownership of the most successful team in the league.

The Clontarf Nuggets, currently leading the league table by 9 points, look set to take yet another pennant this year, despite being dogged by injuries and allegations of steroid use by key goal attack, Jenny Reid.

[Edition 24] LONDON, Thursday: More than 20 equestrian hooligans were arrested last night, after a violent riot at the All-England Showjumping trials in Oxfordshire, north of London.

Police described it as one of the worst outbreaks of equestrian violence this year. The incident has already sparked grave security fears for next month's national dressage titles.

[Edition 24] SYDNEY, Tuesday: Key members of the SOCOG Board were kept in the dark about a planned series of sporting events, to be held in Sydney during September, it was revealed to the media today. The revelations come just days after SOCOG Chief Executive, Mr Sandy Holloway, promised greater communication between the organisation and the politically-appointed Board, and made a public commitment to improve accountability within the secretive organisation.
 
SATAN SUBPOENAED TO CRICKET INQUIRY

[Edition 23] CAPE TOWN, Monday: The King Commission of Inquiry into cricket match-fixing yesterday heard evidence from Satan that he never influenced Hansie Cronje to accept bribes.

Taking the witness stand, Satan refused to swear an oath on the Bible, but otherwise co-operated with counsel's questions.

He told the inquiry he's never met or spoken to Cronje, and certainly never led him into temptation.
