Federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has rebuffed claims that his
leadership might be under challenge, following his embarrassing
confusion of Rove McManus and Karl Rove. “I can assure you that I will
be leading the ABC to the next election,” Beazley announced. “But in any case, Xavier Rudd and I are both utterly devoted to unseating John Howard’s
government and its extreme agenda.”

The
former NSW Labor Minister Milton Orkopoulos has reminded the public that he should
be presumed innocent of each of the 30 separate child sex and drug offences he
was charged with in Newcastle
this week. "I do not want to be subjected to trial by media," Mr Orkopoulos
said in thirty press releases the day after he was charged. "In fact I'm quite
keen to avoid a trial of any sort."

Chris Masters' controversial book Jonestown has outed the
broadcaster Alan Jones as a homosexual. Many have argued that the
writer should not have exposed Jones' private life, but Masters defends
his decision. "It is crucial to understanding the motivations of
Jones," said Masters. "And even more crucial to shifting books off the
shelves."

Kim Beazley has
demanded that migrants and visitors coming into Australia pledge
their support for mateship, hard work, and other words that have
tested well with focus groups. "It's vital that those coming to
Australia understand the concepts of equality, respect and a fair
go," said the Opposition Leader. "Then once they've gained
political office they can trade them for incompetence, cynicism and
expediency."

Iconoclastic
feminist Germaine Greer has struggled to arrive at a contrarian
position on the death of Peter Brock, having prematurely exhausted
her anti-ocker arguments on Steve Irwin. It took Greer several
attempts to create a tenuous link between Brock's death and a social
issue of some import. "Motor 'sport'
is of course not a sport at all, and Peter Brock was not a
sportsman," wrote the permanently disgruntled feminist icon, in a
draft version of an opinion piece for the UK's Guardian newspaper.
