4wd_fishing_thumb_1.jpgWhen the history of fishing for very large and dangerous fish from the back of 4-wheel-drive vehicles is written, let the record reflect that in October 2005, the scoreboard showed: Fish – 2; Freedom - Nil.
Two goals for the fish, and two body-blows to the pride of Australian extreme anglers. First, an unjust and illogical ban on 4WD fishing strangles a nascent pastime derided as ‘cruel’ by inexpert bureaucrats and nanny-state-Stalinists. Second, cultural-reference-point-made-flesh, Rex Hunt, and his son Matthew are set upon in a Byron Bay street by a pack of youths. Across the waves, I weep for my country.
