Okay, so there is nothing unusual about this patriotic bumper sticker -- something you see on numerous American cars. Or is there? Take a close look at what the soldier on the sticker is doing. It's hard to make out, but I'm pretty sure that's grenade in his hand. Does this mean that he's a hero because he's ready to take his own life for America. Or perhaps it's standard operating procedure to have a quick pray before you throw a grenade? Either way, there's something about the whole pose that feels faintly like it's promoting some sort of weird Christian Jihad.
[Article]Military heroes the TnJJnetwork March 10th, 2006 - 7:28 PM It's called a crusade Firthy...
it's tough being a pinko. |
Re: [Article]Military heroes Bruce Campbell March 11th, 2006 - 12:37 AM Didn't Bush say he wanted a Crusade against terorism? |
Re: [Article]Military heroes JohnnyBravo March 11th, 2006 - 3:30 AM Crusade doesn't mean anything these days. A 'crusader' for Human Rights isn't necessarily a warrior in the service of the Christ blessed by the Pope is he? |
Re: [Article]Military heroes Bruce Campbell March 11th, 2006 - 9:01 PM It's just seems amusing that if you declare jihad on someone, you are an enemy of the free world, but declaring a crusade against them is ok |
Re: [Article]Military heroes JohnnyBravo March 11th, 2006 - 10:14 PM Should I repeat myself? Crusader=someone who fights for ANY cause. A Muslim who fights for everything in the canteen to be halal can be described as a crusader for Muslim rights. A Jihad is specifically a holy war for Islam against infidels. |
[Article]Military heroes BigNeil March 12th, 2006 - 1:28 AM Better check that definition of jihad johnny. My understanding is that Jihad literally means 'struggle'. So you can have a jihad for nearly anything, even a jihad for peace. Just because the term has been mistranslated and misappropriated by dodgy news outlets, doesn't neccessarily mean that its definition changes |

When someone declares "jihad" on the Western world I don't think they're talking about an inner struggle to fulfil the duties of Islam... |

If that is the case, I have a jihad on my toilet everytime I have indian food. |

If you are talking Antioch then maybe the count of three comes from father, son & holy spirit. |

If you are talking Antioch then maybe the count of three comes from father, son & holy spirit. I always assumed it was because the device explodes shortly after 3, so you wouldn't want to count much higher. |

Well, they do say there's a practical reason behind every religious practice. |

[Article]Military heroes Gibberer March 19th, 2006 - 9:09 PM What's really sad, DQ, is that George Bush in Pakistan showed he was a better cricketer than Howard.
Gives new meaning to the term "cricket tragic" -- very tragic indeed. |

[Article]Military heroes drunkwombat April 2nd, 2006 - 11:39 AM Well if we use Jihad to describe stuggle, why not use the word "Kampf" as well? A guy back in the '30's wrote a big book he called "Mein Kampf" |
