Yeltsin remembered for getting on tank, getting tanked |

Boris Yeltsin died this week after winning a protracted battle with communism, and losing a protracted battle with alcoholism. The former Russian President was best known for defying the coup plotters who attempted to depose Mikhail Gorbachev when he bravely climbed on top of a tank to see where the nearest bar was.
His friends and families allies gathered for a wake to commemorate the life of the former leader, which his widow described as "how Boris would have wanted to be remembered, if he'd ever been sober enough to state a preference." Blood alcohol tests showed that even though the event took place five days after his death, Mr Yeltsin was still the most intoxicated person at the event.
Yeltsin was the first ruler of Russia in centuries to leave the position voluntarily, resigning his post at the end of 1999. "He was concerned, as many of us were, that his alcoholism was compromising his leadership, and he recognised that something would have to give," his successor Vladimir Putin remembers. "As much as Boris loved being the first leader of the new democratic Russia, there were no surprises which one he gave away."
Putin announced that, as the founder of modern Russia, Mr Yeltsin's body will be permanently displayed in Red Square alongside Lenin's, which is preserved in formaldehyde. Yeltsin had been preparing for the honour for many years by pickling his body in vodka.

Still... alcoholism does get boring. | [Article]Yeltsin remembered for getting on tank, getting tanked Yena May 4th, 2007 - 2:13 AM Sweetie - it is one joke, but its a bloody funny one and they kept it short and sweet! Hmm... It's a bit of a one joke article. Although, quite an amusing joke. Still... alcoholism does get boring. What a load of rubbish, alchoholism keeps people mindlessly amused for hours on end. And by morning, they can't remember the boring bits!
Boris - a man after my own heart. A pissed up leftie still sober enough to give a damn. Bizzarely, He was born raised in a country where being a pissed up leftie is considered normal, and giving a shit is not, so he ended up president!
Onya Boris!, Onya! | Re: [Article]Yeltsin remembered for getting on tank, getting tanked GuyIncognito May 7th, 2007 - 1:21 AM It may be one joke over and over again, but it demonstrates the old adage - repetition is the key to comedy. | (6) comments |
