State Transit announces extra bandwagon services for NRL Grand Final Print E-mail

Well-heeled new Tigers fan have left the team's one long-term supporter, pictured, unable to buy a seat

Rabid new Tiger fans unfamiliar with how to get to Telstra Stadium on Sunday night will have their needs looked after by the state’s transport system, it was revealed today. A special service of luxury bandwagons will take them to the game to watch the club that's recently their favourite after-dinner conversation topic  in the luxury to which they're accustomed.

“We are expecting roughly 85,000 attendees who have never been to a football match before,” said Harold MacMillan, State Transit’s Manager of Special Events.  “Perhaps even more if there’s fair weather. So we need to be sure that we have enough bandwagons for them all to jump on.” MacMillan said that bandwagons left over from the Swans’ Premiership win last week could be used if necessary.

Tickets for the extra services will be sold at standard State Transit prices, then resold with vast mark-ups on eBay.

There are fears that the city’s public bandwagon system could descend into chaos if the Tigers are victorious, leading to the kind of ugly scenes that accompanied South’s re-entry into the NRL in 2002.

But officials maintain there is no cause for alarm. “Even if the streets are deadlocked with thousands of middle-class drop ins, they always disperse by the beginning of next season,” NRL CEO David Gallop said. “And we’ve never had to deal with crowds like this inside a stadium during the season, thank God.”
