[Edition 21] Movie ruined as Alibrandi found in Five-Dock

HABERFIELD, Wednesday: The local movie Looking for Alibrandi experienced a dramatic dip in attendances today after it was announced that Alibrandi had successfully been found.

The film centres on a young Italian-Australian schoolgirl’s struggle to come to terms with her cultural heritage. But the search is now over with the successful location of Antonio Alibrandi, a factory worker from Five Dock.

The film’s producer, Tristram Miall, is reportedly furious with the discovery. “This project was funded on the understanding that Alibrandi was an unknown quantity. Now that everyone knows who Alibrandi is, it’s hardly worth their while paying twelve dollars to watch us look, is it?”

But Alibrandi maintains that the producers have only themselves to blame. “They didn’t look very hard,” said Alibrandi, who says he is as yet unclear why Melina Marchetta, the author, wanted to locate him in the first place. “I’m the only Alibrandi I know and I’ve been here the whole time. You’d think they would have checked the phone book. I’m listed there, right after Ali Baba.”

The author, Marchetta, remains positive about the outcome and has already began writing the sequal Knowing What to Do with Alibrandi Once You’ve Found Him.
