[Edition 87] Michael Moore says that he has put the media storm surrounding Fahrenheit 9/11 behind him, and is already working hard on the media storm surrounding his follow-up movie, which has the working title Preaching To The Converted IV.

The director promises his fans that like the rest of his highly successful books and movies, his next film will demonstrate Moore’s enormous political clout by completely convincing lifetime Democrat voters not to vote Republican.

The controversial filmmaker says that after the remarkable publicity generated by Disney’s ban of Fahrenheit 9/11 and the Murdoch-owned HarperCollins’ ban of his book Stupid White Men, he has decided it would be simplest, and most profitable, to ban his next film himself.

Moore told a rapturous audience of left-wingers at Cannes that the key to successful filmmaking was getting your bans right. “Disney told me they weren’t going to release Fahrenheit more than twelve months ago. Some people would have kicked up a stink then and there, but I think it’s pretty clear that, as usual, I was absolutely correct to wait until just before the Palme D’Or vote.”

The director says that he has already completed planning an intensive schedule of media appearances to protest against his next film’s release. He plans to begin thinking about the movie’s script shortly, but has already settled on a star – Michael Moore – and a broad theme – being right.

“My next film will be extremely subversive and outrageous. Its relentless truth-telling will be very dangerous – for the powerful,” he promised. “That is why I have decided that I simply cannot release it, and also why you must see it when the Weinsteins decide to release it despite all my objections.”
