Pope Benedict 16 complains getting a papal name is harder than Hotmail

Pope Benedict: the Umpteenth

The incoming Pope Benedict XVI says he is delighted to have been elected Pontiff, but wishes he could have chosen a snappier, more memorable name. “It’s hard to stand out from the pack when you’re one of sixteen guys with the same name,” the Holy Father said. “Centuries from now no-one will even remember which Benedict I was. Jesus never had this problem.”

The Pope, who was a member of the Hitler Youth as a young man, said he had initially wanted to be known as Pope Führer I, but that his aides at the Vatican had talked him out of it.

“After 2000 years, it’s so hard for a Pope to find a name that’s really memorable,” the man formerly known as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger complained. “I had a much easier time signing up to my Hotmail account, [email protected]. For some reason no-one else had wanted it.”

The Pope is also irritated that he has had to adopt a Latin name. “I really liked it when the other cardinals knew me as Joe, or Giuseppe for the Italians. I’ve really never thought of myself as a Benedictus,” he said. “The kids are going to think I’m some kind of square.”

However the Pontiff has found it even harder to find a vacant web address for his official site, ultimately settling for hisholinesspopebenedictxvionlineofficialthemovie48827b.com
