In 2002 and 2003, The Chaser and Andrew Denton produced a series set in the world of the Chaser Nonstop News Network, otherwise known as CNNNN. It was a satire of cable news channels, as well as television in general through the sketches of the other programming featured on “Chaser Cable”. While the first series was strictly topical, the second contained broader themes designed to stand alone, and featured a live NewsBand as the network introduced the concept of “Newstainment”, combining cable news with a tonight show. The second series won the 2004 Most Outstanding Comedy Logie, tying with Kath & Kim.
Curiously, the format rights have been sold to several other countries.
A DVD featuring some of the best episodes of CNNNN is available in our online store, and the website (including the show’s popular newsbar) is archived via the ABC.
