War to guarantee regime change in Iraq, Britain

Blair reassures a skeptical voter that the war will end his regime too

[Edition 70] LONDON, Monday: Prime Minister Blair has sought to bolster support for the war against Iraq by guaranteeing regime change.

“If we go to war this arrogant megalomaniac will definitely lose his position as leader,” said Blair. “But enough about me, Saddam may also lose his job.”

Blair’s decision to link his own loss of job to Britain going to war is seen as a last ditch attempt to gain support from the public and his rebelling back bench. Already the approach has had some positive effect.

“I haven’t yet seen the case made out to attack Iraq, but the case to ditch Blair as leader is overwhelming,” said one left wing Labor backbencher.

However, even those who support the war to ensure regime change in Britain fear that it may not work.

“The problem with Britain, like Iraq, is that there is just no viable alternative government,” said one supporter. “If the US thinks the population will put up with Tory leader Ian Duncan Smith, they are kidding themselves. Most people would prefer an Iraqi warlord.”
